How A Bike Shop used Boxlock to adapt their business during a pandemic
The Spindle Atlanta is a bike shop and urban commuter apparel store with a workshop that creates custom bags and wearables for cyclists. It also houses a pop-up kitchen where you can grab a coffee, empanadas, or even Puerto Rican vegan pastries depending on the day.
Owner and self-proclaimed bag wizard, Ezz-Eldin Hassan opened The Spindle back in 2014 in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, steps away from the Atlanta Beltline. The goal was to bring comfortable, breathable, and durable cycling clothing to Atlanta's growing bike community that would keep you cool during summer commutes and perform well while dodging cars in Atlanta's world-renowned traffic.
The Spindle is all about bringing the community together, from the eastside of Atlanta to the westside. The shop is the main hangout for people from all walks of life with one thing in common, riding bikes! On most days, you will see a diverse group of bikes parked out front, from expensive carbon road bikes to fixed gear track bikes with no brakes to old school steel mountain bikes with super fat tires. Everyone is welcome here.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, The Spindle was strictly a clothing retailer and custom bag maker. With the renewed interest in cycling due to social distancing and stay at home orders, The Spindle has pivoted into repairing and selling bicycles due to high demand.
Ezz and his team looked to BoxLock as a way to secure customer's bikes and bikes for sale outside of the shop. This would allow for contactless pickup and give customers the flexibility to pick up their bikes outside regular business hours.
When a customer arrives at the shop to pick up their newly tuned up or repaired bike, Ezz can unlock his BoxLock attached to the bike outside using Bluetooth from his smartphone and the BoxLock mobile app. For customers that want to pick up a bike after hours, he can quickly generate a one time use barcode for them and share it with them via text or email. The customer can pull up the barcode on their phone and scan it using BoxLock to get their bike.
BoxLock is the ultimate tool for staying nimble in our ever-changing world. We help businesses plan for the unknown and secure the things that matter to them and their customers most. Ensuring that Atlanta’s bikes are safe upon arrival.
